Export Barbados (BIDC) hosted more than thirty budding and potential exporters at the start of its highly anticipated training series, “Getting Export Ready – The Fundamentals” on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. In his opening remarks, CEO of Export Barbados, Mark Hill, emphasised the importance of resilience and realism in entrepreneurship.
Mr. Hill congratulated the attendees on their transition to the export space and advised them that they need to assess their products or services to determine if they meet the requirements of the markets they want to penetrate. The CEO of Export Barbados cautioned the group that entrepreneurship does not mean “running behind ideas”. Instead, entrepreneurs need to hustle as they ask three important questions: “Is it real? Can it win? Is it worth it?”
“Getting Export Ready – The Fundamentals” has been specifically developed to cater to the clients recently onboarded into Export Barbados (BIDC)’s Tier 5 Export Academy from the National Cultural Foundation’s (NCF) Accelerate to Export Program and the Barbados Trust Fund Ltd’s (BTFL) Manufest initiative.
This comprehensive four-week “bootcamp-style” export preparation workshop aims to equip micro-businesses with the necessary skills to successfully enter regional and international markets with their products.
The topics covered include business modelling, establishing business systems to facilitate exports, business planning and implementation, legal issues in export trade, financial considerations for export, tariffs, trade regulations, and export certification, marketing and sales, design, packaging, and labelling, e-commerce, tradeshow preparation, booth design, and branding, as well as developing the export plan.
The semi-weekly training sessions will conclude on June 29th, 2023.
The second cohort of export training is scheduled to commence in September of 2023.
