The Inaugural “Harbour Games” Kick Off in Barbados, Fostering Camaraderie and Strengthening Bonds Amongst Companies

The Barbados Trust Fund Ltd, in collaboration with Export Barbados (BIDC), is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural “Harbour Games.” This exciting event, taking place from June 7 to July 28, 2023, aims to support camaraderie, encourage teamwork, and create new ways to strengthen relationships amongst organisations operating in and around the Harbour.

The “Harbour Games” will feature a diverse range of activities designed to engage employees and promote physical and mental well-being. Participants will have the opportunity to compete in thrilling games such as dominoes, draughts, darts, football, road tennis, netball, and more. Additionally, health checks, aerobics sessions, and various other activities will be available for employees to stay fit and have fun.

The theme of the “Harbour Games” is “Take Action Today,” emphasizing the importance of building and fostering better relationships with partners, employees, and communities. By strengthening these connections, we can collectively thrive and remain resilient as a people.

The Games were inaugurated on June 7, 2023, with an opening ceremony featuring remarks from Mark Hill, CEO of Export Barbados (BIDC). Mr. Hill commended the organizing committee for their efforts in bringing the Games to life and encouraged all participants to embrace the spirit of the event and enjoy themselves. To kickstart the competition, CEO Hill and Gerald Amos, General Manager of Barbados Trust Fund Limited, played to an exciting draw in the first game of the dominoes competition.

Blue Waters, represented by Kobie Broomes, Marketing Communications Manager of Atlantic Marketing, has shown their support as an official sponsor of the “Harbour Games.” Broomes highlighted the importance of staying hydrated and applauded the initiative to host the games. He also encouraged the participants to embrace an active lifestyle, and urged “Barbados as at whole to get moving!”

The domino competition, which got going after the opening ceremony, witnessed an impressive turnout, with 92 participants registered for the three-hand format. Three rounds were held on Wednesday night, and the top 40 players have been identified to advance to the finals of this segment, scheduled for Friday, June 9.

Although the domino competition has already commenced, there are still plenty of opportunities for individuals and companies to participate. Alongside the various sporting events, the “Harbour Games” will feature engaging social media challenges. Join the #BurpeeChallenge on June 20, the #SkippingChallenge on June 27, and the #PushUpChallenge on July 4, and be a part of the excitement.

We invite all organisations, employees, and individuals to come together, support one another, and embrace the spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie at the “Harbour Games.” Let us strengthen our bonds, improve our well-being, and create lasting memories.
