Hailed as the oldest continuously operating rum producer in the world, Mount Gay Rum has been operating since 1703 when John Sobers inherited a small distillery in Mount Gilboa, St. Lucy. The Sobers family eventually hired Sir John Gay Alleyne whose innovations and achievements within the company were so successful that they renamed the distillery in his honour. While the flagship products for the company are Black Barrel and XO, the company produces six other rums, these being Eclipse, 1703 Master Select, Pot Still Rum and XO: Smoke Expressio. This Barbadian Rum is highly sought after worldwide and is sold in sixty-six countries with their primary export market being the USA.
