Arawak Cement Co. Ltd.

Production began at the Arawak manufacturing facility in April 1984. Originally a joint venture between the governments of Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, the company was however sold in March of 1994 to the Trinidadian Company TCL Group. In 2014, TCL entered a managerial contract with Cemex. Cemex is a Mexican multinational building materials firm that manufactures and distributes cement, ready-mix concrete, and aggregates in more than 50 countries. Arawaks core business is the manufacture of their Portland limestone cement, with twenty percent of their business generated in the domestic market while the other eighty percent comes from exports. Guyana is the principal export market, however, the company also exports to St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Anguilla.
